Sanctuary doesn't play the same way after this update, and you'll notice it before you've even settled into a proper farming loop. The old habit of grabbing whatever drops and hoping the build fixes itself won't carry you far now. Gear planning matters from the start, especially if you're chasing stronger D4 items for late-game pushes. I'd treat every drop as part of a bigger system rather than a quick upgrade. Some pieces are crafting fuel. Some are Aspect holders. A few are worth building around. That's the mindset shift this season asks for.
The Cube is no longer optional
The Horadric Cube feels familiar, but it's doing much heavier lifting this time. It's not just there for a bit of old-school flavour. It's where a lot of your power growth happens. The Amalgamation recipes are the ones players should learn early, since they let you turn ordinary resources and weaker drops into something that can actually move your build forward. You'll burn through materials faster than you expect, so don't be casual about picking things up. The Jeweler matters just as much now, mainly because Rune Crafting has become a proper grind. Magic, Rare, and Legendary Runes of Invocation and Ritual all have a place. Reforge them, upgrade them, and don't get lazy with the process. Mythic Uniques still won't fall into your lap, but this gives you a real path toward them.
Escalations are where the pressure starts
Regular Nightmare Dungeons feel tame compared with Nightmare Escalations. If you want the better rewards, you'll need Escalation Sigils, and some of them, like Farai Cliffs, can be nasty if you walk in half-asleep. Always read the affixes before opening one. It sounds obvious, but plenty of players waste good sigils because they ignore modifiers like Suppressor Elites or Diamond Reserve. Those can turn a clean run into a complete mess. When you do clear them, though, the payout is worth it. Obducite is the big reason to keep going back. You'll need huge stacks of it, plus a silly amount of gold, to keep feeding the Cube's upgrade cycle. If it drops, stash it. You'll regret selling or wasting it later.
Boss runs still pay the bills
When Escalations start feeling too repetitive, switch over to boss farming. Targeted boss runs are still one of the better ways to stock up on Infernal Hordes Compasses and Tributes. Astaroth is a good example, since his lair can feed you the keys you need for the wave-based survival content. That's where the loot tables get more interesting, especially once your build can handle longer fights without falling apart. Just don't zone out. The Butcher still has a bad habit of showing up when you're already juggling cooldowns, potions, and a boss mechanic. He's funny after the fact. During the run, not so much.
Spend smarter and copy what works
Murmuring Obols are easy to waste, and most players do exactly that. Don't gamble random slots at the Purveyor of Curiosities just because you're bored. Check the odds for the Aspect you actually need, then spend on the slot that gives you the best chance. Once Ancestral Legendaries over Item Power 900 start dropping, look past the headline number. A good ring, for example, needs useful defensive rolls and damage support, not just one flashy stat. If you hit a wall, peek at the leaderboards. See what the high-tier players are using, then adjust your own setup instead of copying it blindly.
